Come visit our new George Public Library location, opening Monday, July 8th!

The new library location is easy to find near the George Elementary School at 403 S. Washington Way. The building is maintained by the City of George through an agreement with the Quincy School District who owns it. Both have been incredible partners to our facilities team throughout this process!

We have expanded our hours! We will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10AM – 1PM & 2PM – 6PM as well as Wednesdays from 11AM – 7PM.

In addition to the move, the library now features enhanced digital access for the George Community. The improvements include a Digital Literacy Learning Lab, a Telehealth/Teleservices Booth, expanded Wi-Fi access, an ADA accessible entrance, and more!

These improvements were funded by a $120,000 grant awarded to NCW Libraries by the Department of Commerce and distributed through the NCW Tech Alliance.

The Digital Literacy Learning Lab features 9 public access computers in a flexible classroom setting along with a wall-mounted TV with conferencing capabilities and a lectern. This technology will allow NCW Libraries, the NCW Tech Alliance and other partners to offer a wide range of digital literacy classes to people of all ages living in George and the surrounding areas. When classes aren’t scheduled, the computers will be available for use by the public.

A Teleservices Booth is being installed to provide a private, acoustically separated space for the community to attend virtual health and social services appointments or other teleconferencing meetings.

Wireless access points were installed at various locations on the interior and exterior of the building to expand the reach of our free Wi-Fi to the community. A picnic table and gazebo were installed so internet users could comfortably use the free Wi-Fi even when the library is closed. Comfortable seating areas were also added to the interior of the library.

The additional added features will improve access to the library and ensure that the Digital Literacy Learning Lab and Teleservices Booth function appropriately.

  • Fiber was brought to the building.
  • Electrical and low-voltage wiring was adjusted.
  • Security features, interior signage, and exterior signage were added.
