After a year of planning, community engagement, design, and preparations, the Peshastin Library will temporarily close on Monday, April 15 for an update and is slated to reopen later this summer.
This refresh is part of our Reimagining Spaces Project, learn more about that here.
In the summer of 2023, NCW Libraries and Library Forward, the design firm contracted for the Reimagining Spaces Project, conducted a community outreach process. Through community meetings, a pop-up kiosk at the Peshastin Market, stakeholder meetings, and a survey, 128 community members provided input on how they would like to see their space updated.
The community feedback was incorporated into a design plan that includes:
- An enhanced children’s area
- Mobile shelving and flexible space
- Improved seating and storage
- A break area for staff
- Increased building accessibility
During the closure, we will also conduct an asbestos abatement process, provide new signage, and paint the interior and exterior of the library.
Branch Librarian, Clare Morrison, is working with art teacher Amber Zimmerman to develop a collaborative art installation with the Peshastin Dryden Elementary School first graders for the new library space.
“The Community Engagement process provided a wonderful opportunity to strengthen relationships between NCW Libraries and Peshastin residents. I am excited for everyone to see how we incorporated their feedback into the design plan. We will be able to do so much more in the library space once we reopen,” said Clare.
