Reimagining Spaces – Curlew
The Curlew Library has served as a central community hub since opening in 2015, thanks to the vision and dedication for the Curlew Library Friends. Every inch of the 1,200 square foot space is regularly utilized for programming, activities, and connection. In Spring of 2023, NCW Libraries partnered with the Curlew Friends to gather input from the community on design and activity focus. This feedback is now being incorporated into design plans to update the overall look and feel and functionality of the interior spaces.
Planned improvements include:
- Updated furniture, flooring and paint
- Small meeting room
- Private staff area
- Improved service point
UPDATE! Our Curlew Reimagining is well underway! The library closed to the public on September 21st and construction began. Our staff have been operating a temporary Library “pop-up” at the old Curlew Fire Hall three days a week (see above for hours). The last day of service at the pop up will be Friday, November 22. The Curlew Library is tentatively planned to reopen on Saturday, December 7.
The plans for the library’s reimagining will build upon the thoughtful and efficient design of the original space, while incorporating some new features in response to public input. A private reservable space for the public is being added, as well as more flexible furniture that will make it much easier to provide a variety of programming. The space will be updated with the cool and calming colors that are a part of our “Off the Grid” design direction. The interior will receive a fresh coat of paint, along with new flooring, and updated furniture. Lastly, a small back office is being built to allow for times of privacy and focus work for library staff. We hope to complete the project in early December.
