Reimagining Spaces – Ephrata
The community of Ephrata has a long history of supporting its library, dating back nearly 100 years ago when a fundraiser at the Methodist Church raised the initial money to open the town’s first public library. A subsequent campaign in the 1950’s raised the capital to build a new library, and a move in 1986 brought the library to its current location in the building that once served as the Ephrata Fire Department.
The Ephrata Library is proud to serve as the community waiting room- A place centrally located in downtown Ephrata where residents come to browse the latest magazines and bestsellers while waiting for appointments, dropping kids off for activities, or passing the time until the next train or bus comes. Additionally, the library features a seed lending library, a popular teen homework hub, a playful children’s space, and public computer stations that are busy at all hours of the day.
As we begin to explore updates to the interior spaces, Ephrata Library is ripe for a reimagining that capitalizes on the many ways the community currently uses the space, while also providing new opportunities and resources.
Anticipated improvements to the branch include:
- New flooring and paint throughout
- Improved service point
- Updated shelving and furniture
- Improved lighting and signage
UPDATE! Our team has been hard at work on continuing to refine the design for the Ephrata Library to find the best ways to incorporate community feedback while making the optimum use of the space available. The top selected design directions will result in an aesthetic that draws on the beauty of the surrounding water, hills, and plans for inspiration. The Family Fun and Play program focus will allow for a variety of spaces that can accommodate a broad range of ages and interests. Stay tuned as we continue to make plans for Ephrata’s transformation!
