Learning to read begins before children start school. By helping your child develop early literacy skills now, it will make it easier for them to learn to read once they begin kindergarten.

According to Every Child Ready to Read, a project of the Association for Library Services to Children and the Public Library Association, six of the best ways to help your child get ready to read are: talking, singing, reading, writing, playing, and counting.

The Public Library Association has created a monthly calendar that provides daily challenges, each focused on one of the six practices geared toward children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. The calendars contain learning activities, book lists, nursery rhymes, and more.

The calendars are available in English and Spanish. They can be downloaded using the links below and printed copies are available at all library locations.
