Celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of the Curlew Library

Join us in celebrating the Curlew Library’s Grand Re-Opening!

Friday, January 3, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM

Tour the updated space and join the celebration of the partnership between NCW Libraries and the incredible Friends of the Curlew Library. Enjoy a slideshow of the library over the years, brief remarks by library staff and Friends members as well as crafts and a hot chocolate bar.

This project would not be possible without the support of the Curlew Friends of the Library. The majority of our buildings are owned and maintained by local municipalities. Curlew is one of only three libraries that is owned and maintained by a Friends group. What a testament to the Friend’s investment and commitment to libraries!

The Friends have supported this project every step of the way, from informing the design plan to helping with packing and moving. Their engagement in this project was critical to its success and allowed NCW Libraries to maximize the potential of this project.

We also want to shout out the local businesses who supported this project including Tugboats, Curlew Saloon, Curlew General Store, and The Pot & Kettle Co who provided the hot chocolate station for the Grand Re-Opening Celebration. 

This project represents our third completed Reimagining Spaces Project. However, Curlew was the first opportunity we had to receive community feedback through our community engagement efforts. The Curlew community provided excellent, actionable feedback. And the engagment efforts helped us establish a reliable model that we have repeated in other communities.

Community members were able to share their ideas through meetings, a pop-up kiosk, and a survey available in print or online. Their responses highlighted the welcoming nature of the local community and the importance of library programming to community life. The remodel included the following updates: New flooring, additional shelving, a self-check kiosk, comfortable lounge seating, calming accent walls, and more.

The Curlew Public Library has been serving the community since 2015.
