Throughout the month of April, our Winthrop Library, with the support of the Friends of the Winthrop Library, will be hosting multiple jazz musicians, both local and from the Seattle area.
- April 9, 5PM, Brazilian Jazz with Dave Nolet
- April 16, 6PM, Jazz Tunes with Linda and Wayne Mendro along with Librarian Murray Sampson
- April 23, 5PM, “Open Rehearsal” with Jazz Trio Will Lone, Martin Budde, and Dylan Hayes
- April 30, 5:30PM, Classic Jazz with George Schnieder and Marcus Duke
This program was developed and curated by Librarian Murray Sampson. Several musicians are volunteering their time and others are funded by the Friends whose mission is to support and promote the Winthrop Library as a vital community resource.
This jazz series comes after a successful “Remembering Beethoven” event on March 26th. The Winthrop Library hosted over 50 attendees, of all ages, who enjoyed an evening of live music presented by the Tamarack String Quartet.
“Libraries are so much more than just books,” said Murray Sampson, Branch Librarian. “This event highlights how the library serves as a community hub and cultural destination.”
In partnership with Cascadia Music, the Winthrop Library is planning future educational and performance events featuring teaching musicians from the Pacific Northwest. The Methow Valley
Chamber Music Festival will host an “Open Rehearsal” in the community room during their month-long summer festival celebrating classical music.
“We greatly value all the community partners we get to work with. If an organization has ideas for library programming, I am open to discussing them and seeing how we can work together to serve our local community,” said Sampson.
