October is National Italian American Heritage Month, celebrating the rich culture, generational traditions, and significant contributions to food, art, religion, science, and much more!
There are currently more than 26 million Americans of Italian descent residing in the United States, making them the fifth largest ethnic group in the nation. According to the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, Italians began migrating to the U.S. in large numbers in the 1880s to flee rural poverty in Southern Italy and Sicily.
NCW Libraries has many resources in its collection to help you celebrate, including cookbooks, movies, music and, of course, books! Here are a few suggestions to get you started. Or you can explore our entire collection using the keywords Italian American to find more.
